Shirlea Hennessy and Tara Connor
Shirlea Hennessy earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Marymount University in 2011. She has a passion for treating those with neurodegenerative conditions and has been LSVT BIG certified (program for patients with Parkinson’s disease) since 2012. Shirlea enjoys educating physical therapy students from local universities and is a certified clinical instructor (CI) since 2012, and holds an active Direct Access certification. She is an active member both professional associations, American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and Virginia Physical Therapy Association (VPTA) since 2011. Shirlea earned her Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) degree in 2014 to better serve the continuum care population. She has recently trained in the Meeks Method for postural correction and has extensive education in treatment for vestibular and balance dysfunction, and is currently pursuing continuing education in treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction.
Tara Connor graduated with her MS in Occupational Therapy in 2012 from Scranton University in Pennsylvania. She was pleased to accept her first post-graduate position at the Virginian to continue her education in the care of the geriatric population. After six years of experience at the Virginian, she is now certified in the LSVT BIG program for patients with Parkinson’s disease, is the primary OT clinical fieldwork coordinator and the manager of the personal exercise program. She is also now the primary therapist for outpatient OT with a recent AOTA accredited badging certification in home safety modifications.
